You are officially a travel agent! So… what next? We know all the information can be extremely overwhelming and we want to help you out every step of the way. After you have sent all your paperwork into Prestige, here are a few pointers to get you headed in the right direction.
Step One: Become an Agent. You’ve already done this part! You’ve taken the leap of becoming a travel agent. Congratulations on your new venture!
Step Two: Review Information. Read the material Prestige provided for you. This includes the binder and information found on HomeTravelAgent.com. You do not have to memorize everything, but having a good overall knowledge of what you are getting into is a smart idea.
Step Three: Let people know! Start by letting those that are close to you know about your new passion. Word of mouth is the BEST and CHEAPEST way to market. Tell family, friends, club members, neighbors, co-workers, church members, Facebook, etc. Take a moment to think about all the people you come in contact with on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. You probably know more people than you think. Even if you do not have a website, business cards, or even decided on a company name, as long as the word is out there, all that will fall into place. Refer to the Marketing section on HomeTravelAgent.com. You can find information about websites, business cards, social media, 800 numbers and much more.
Step Four: Find your niche. Decide what area you would prefer to specialize in. Sure, as a travel agent you can book the world, but learning all of that information is nearly impossible! Do not get frustrated. If you are passionate about cruises, Disney or all-inlcusive land tours, then that is a good place to start. Sign up on travel agent sites such as travelagentuniversity.com, TravelAgentAcademy.com, CruisingPower.com, DisneyTA.com, GoCCL.com, and if you have NETAdvantage, AgentUniverse.com. These are all helpful sites to start booking and expand your knowledge about our preferred suppliers. There are a ton of others as well. Of course, finding a niche does not mean to turn away someone seeking something else. It is just a place for you to get started.
Step Five: Practice. How many times have you heard practice makes perfect? Even if you do not have a client yet, practice looking for the best prices. Make up scenarios and see what you find.
Step Six: Turn to us. Remember you are not alone in this. We have highly qualified professionals who have been doing this for years and are here to help.
